WHY RUN A COMPETITION? 

Running a competition attracts people to your stand and increases time spent on your stand. And people at stands attract more people to stands. Fact! 

Folks are generally competitive and like to win things. We’ve done all sorts in the past, guess the number of Smarties in the jar, roll five dice and see what score you get (score gets noted down with a leaderboard too), guess the name of the cuddly office mascot etc etc.

Our exhibitors have had the beepy handheld thing where you guide it along without touching the wibbly metal (we’re awful at that!), best selfie with large cut-out of office mascot (great for social PR!), driving games and all sorts of other engaging fun things. Things with leaderboards are especially attractive as folks might keep popping back to see how they’re doing, or to have another go!

It’s all about engagement, fun and making them stay that bit longer so you can chat with them a bit more – it’ll make your stand more memorable too.

It’s also brilliant for PR and sharing on social media there and then, get the person’s social media handle, take a photo of them taking part and Faceook, Tweet (well, X) or Insta or LinkedIn it, with our #tag of course. Tell us about it and we’ll share it for you on social media, before and during the expo!

Don’t forget to get people’s business cards in return for entering – always check that their name and email address is on there, write it on if not, some people have generic business cards ….

What you want more than anything is visitors’ details so you can follow up after the show. 

Always get in touch a few days / week later to inform people who the winner(s) were. The prize can be edible, business related, or whatever you like as long as it’s of value to the potential entrant.
NB! Some folks now have electronic cards which they can’t bob into competitions etc – connect with them there and then but also have little cards they can write their name and number on to bob into your prize draw etc so they can still take part.
Also, be GDPR safe – make sure you have in small print that entry into the competition is an authorisation for your company to contact the entrant.

WHY HAVE GIVEAWAYS, OR A FABULOUS SHOW PRIZE? 

Nothing attracts the roving expo attendee quite like an attractive hamper of delights or something else edible or posh that they might win….

Especially if said fabulous prize stands out or is elevated somehow so they can see it over the throngs.

This can be linked to a competition as above or can simply be a prize draw. Have a very obvious business card bowl (we suggest a glass bowl – take along some decoy cards so you can make it look like there are already several in there at the start!) and a printed sign saying ‘pop your card in our bowl for a chance to win this fantastic prize’ or similar.

What you want more than anything (as above) is visitors’ details so you can follow up after the show and keep in touch.
